FAQs
What is eco-friendly compostable cutlery made of?

It is usually made from renewable materials like Polylactic Acid (PLA), cornstarchsugarcane bagassebamboo, or birch wood.
These are byproducts from farming that break down naturally without leaving harmful things behind.

Can I use compostable cutlery for hot food?

It depends on what material it’s made from.
Regular PLA or cornstarch cutlery can get soft when exposed to high heat. But CPLA (crystallized polylactic acid) and wooden cutlery can handle temperatures up to about 90 to 100 degrees Celsius, making them good choices for hot soups and noodles.

What is the difference between "biodegradable" and "compostable"?

Biodegradable means the item will break down over time, but it might take a long time or leave behind some plastic parts.
Compostable items are made to break down completely into safeorganic compost within a certain period, and they follow more strict environmental rules.

Can I put compostable cutlery in my regular recycling bin?

No.
Compostable utensils can’t be handled by normal recycling plants. They might mix up with paper or plastic recycling, which could make those materials unusable and end up in a landfill.

Does compostable cutlery break down in a backyard compost pile?

It depends on the type of material.
Wooden, bamboo, and some bagasse products usually break down in home compost pilesoften within 6 to 12 months. But CPLA bioplastics need the high and constant heat and active microbes found in industrial composting facilities.
